TITLE: The Oldest Oppression in the Book

SUMMARY: Prostitution has often been referred to as "the oldest profession in the book." And there is a growing movement to further legitimize and normalize prostitution as a profession through full-decriminalization. But is prostitution just a job? Harmony Dust, a survivor of commercial sexual exploitataion who has provided services and support women coming out of prostitution for 20 years, answers this question and explores the ramifications of decriminalization.

Short Bio

Harmony Dust, MSW

Survivor of exploitation turned UCLA honor student, in 2003, Harmony founded Treasures to help women and girls entrenched in sexual exploitation find freedom. She has provided training for the Department of Justice and the FBI and has helped launch outreaches in 120 cities worldwide. Her story has been featured on NPR, in Glamour and in her memoir, Scars and Stilettos.

Harmony Dust, MSW

Survivor of exploitation turned UCLA honor student, Harmony’s goal is to help women and girls entrenched in sexual exploitation find freedom. 

Armed with personal experience, evidence-based theories and a Master’s Degree in Social Work, she comprehensively sheds light on the impact of a pornified culture and the lives of those trapped within it. Her pursuit of justice has led to Congressional recognition and opportunities to train the Department of Justice and FBI in best practices. In 2003, she founded Treasures to empower other women in their recovery and freedom from the commercial sex industry and trafficking.

 

Harmony’s memoir, Scars and Stilettos, details her harrowing account of moving from victim to survivor to liberator.
